ያለፈው ሳምንት(16/June/2012) የአልጀዚራ አረቢክ ሪፖርት – ስድስት ወር የዘለቀው የኢትዮጵያውያን ሙስሊሞች የተቃውሞ ድምፅ

Six months on, Ethiopian Muslims are still protesting. They say they refuse the continued government interference in religion matters.
In Awoliya, the biggest Islamic Institute in the country thousands of Muslims, men and women gathered responding to calls from the Ethiopian Muslim Public committee.

Muslims demands still insist on rejecting coercing them with the aid of government, into embracing Ahbash ideology. The ideology they believe will tear peace among Muslims.
The Ethiopian Muslim Public committee that came together to find a solution for the issue refused what it called accusations from local media that they are using the Muslims movement for political agenda.
“We confirm that Muslims demands are both legitimate and constitutional, and it cannot be stopped by intimidation” Said Mr Kamil Shamsi from the committee: ” The accusations that this committee has a political agenda, is baseless”

While the Ethiopian government says that it is not interfering in religion issues and confirms its stance on committing to the rules of the constitution, but the Muslims committee says the interference still continues.
“Muslims of this country have participated in choosing their country leader in the elections.” Ahmed Mustafa the committee member said “How can they be denied their rights to choose their religion leaders in the mosques and schools?!. It would be a historical mistake not to listen to the Muslims legitimate peaceful questions”

What’s new this week is that Ethiopian Muslims have decided to choose their own leaders themselves instead of the existing Islamic High council they said doesn’t represent their ambitions.
